Obituary for Mrs. Robbie E. Lavergne

Robbie Eulalia Stewart was born to Andrew & Nancy Stewart on February 12, 1922 in Houston, Texas. She was affectionally referred to as “Punchie”, Nana or big mama to many family and friends. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1941. She met and married Ernest Lavergne and were married for 56 years until his death.

Robbie accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and joined Friendship Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. C. E. Bell. Later she joined Loyal Baptist Church where Rev. Asa Sampson served as pastor who later organized Hopewell Baptist Church. She loved the Lord, her pastor, Rev. Asa Sampson and her Church family. She served in many capacities and loved using her voice to sing praises to our Lord. She also had a passion for cooking and found great joy in sharing her meals with others. Robbie loved children as well, and it was a priority that food was provided. Robbie remained a faithful member and dedicated her life to the continual praise of Christ. She shared God’s Word with all that she encountered from the Doctors and nurses to the healthcare aids and visitors. She was truly faithful unto death, and we know there’s a crown laid up for her. Her final words were “I want to see Jesus”!

Over the years she had several managerial positions. She worked at her brother’s pharmacy, Stewart’s Pharmacy near TSU campus and Ivory Cleaners owed by her former pastor. She later went to work with one of Houston’s oldest and distinguished families, the Corona’s / Mandola’s.

She was proceeded in death by her mother and father, husband Ernest Lavergne, son, Reginald Lavergne, 7 sisters and 3 brothers. Robbie 95, was called home to be with the Lord on May 26, 2017.

Robbie leaves son Robert Smith, daughters, Elva Thomas, Ernestine Kachur (Billy), Sharon Lavergne and one granddaughter, Gabrielle Simone, Cory Glenn, Craig Winters, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends to cherish her memories.
