Life Story for Mrs. Joanna Lynn Zeigler

Mrs. Joanna Lynn Zeigler
Celebrating The Life Of Joanna Lynn Zeigler
“A life that touched many lives; a life that will live in our hearts forever.”

Joanna Lynn Zeigler was born on December 22, 1951 to proud and loving parents Yola and Henry Roy. She spent her early life growing up in Grand Coteau, Louisiana surrounded by her close family.

Upon completing high school at St. Peter’s Claver Catholic High School in 1968, Joanna moved to Houston, Texas with her cousin Beulah to pursue her education. After accomplishing this achievement, Joanna found her career path with M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in the early 1980’s. While at M.D. Anderson she became a veterinary technician in the research department in Veterinary Medicine. She was a very devoted employee as she loved the animals in her care. While pursuing her career goals, Joanna met Rufus Zeigler Jr. whom she married on June 12, 1981. Together they had two loving children, Rufus Zeigler III (1979) and Maegan Zeigler (1987). Along with these joyful additions, Joanna inherited a benevolent step-daughter, Keisha Wilson.

After 27 years at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Joanna retired and spent her days devotedly caring for her grandchildren, husband, and children. Joanna was also a devout Catholic and faithful servant of God. Joanna attended Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church throughout her adult life in Houston with her family.

Joanna leaves behind to cherish her memory: Rufus Zeigler Jr. (husband), Maegan Zeigler (daughter), Rufus Zeigler III (son) and his wife (Alba), and Keisha Wilson (step-daughter); four sisters – Margaret Coco, Catherine Hughes, Barbara Romar, and Audrey Mae Lewis; two brothers – Henry Roy Jr. and his wife (Glady) and Willie Roy and his wife (Lavinia); three grandchildren – Jamar Rashaun Zeigler, Amarie Zeigler, Aedan Zeigler, and one step-grandchild Karen Zeigler; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Yola Richard and Henry Roy, and four sisters – Mary Lou Roy, Maydelle Roy Lewis, Marie Brown, and Doris Barriere.
