Celebrating the Life of Rufus Zeigler Jr.

Rufus Zeigler Jr. who was affectionately called (Junior Baby) was born September 24, 1948 to loving parents Rufus Zeigler Sr. and Retta Lee Zeigler. He spent his early life growing up in Alexandria, Louisiana with his two brothers: Billy Rufus Zeigler and Henry Edward Zeigler- and three sisters: Nobie Ann Copes, Beverly Ann Robinson and Patricia Ann Williams.

He attended school in Rapides Parish where he received his high school diploma at Peabody High in 1967. Following high school, he joined the US Marine Corps and after basic training he was deployed to Vietnam where he served a tour of duty in 1968. Rufus was awarded several purple hearts during his service and was honorably discharged in May of 1971. After leaving the military, he moved to Houston and began a career working on offshore rigs. He married his first wife Carolyn Ann Hughes. They had a daughter, Keisha A. Wilson (1971) and two step sons: Donnally and Warren.

While switching careers to a truck driver, he met his second wife Joanna L. Zeigler and together they had two loving children Rufus J. Zeigler III (1979) and Maegan Zeigler (1987). He spent his later years devoting his love and care as a husband and grandfather.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Rufus Zeigler Sr. and Retta Lee Zeigler and his wife Joanna L. Zeigler and younger sibling.

Rufus leaves to cherish his memory: Rufus Jamar Zeigler III (Alba), Meagan Zeigler, and Keisha A. Wilson (Kennen); 8 grandchildren: Jamar, Amarie, Aedan, Karen, Kentray, Keivon, Keonta Strain, and Cordero Wilson; one great granddaughter Kennedi Page; five siblings: Billy Rufus Zeigler (Rose) and Henry Edward Zeigler, Nobie Ann Copes (Mitchell), Beverly Ann Robinson (Ananise) and Patricia Ann Williams (J. Ray); two special relatives: Detra Williams and James E. Holiday III; one surviving aunt Maybelline Cheney; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
